| Atlético Madrid have won the Europa League final, beating fellow Spaniards Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in Bucharest tonight.
Colombian star Radamel Falcao opened the scoring after just seven minutes, with a sublime, curling, left-footed goal, and then doubled Atlético's lead just after the half-hour. Diego fired home in the final-minutes to wrap up an impressive display by Atlético.
Despite dominating possession in both halves, Athletic Bilbao were unable to find the form that thrilled fans with their wins over Manchester United earlier in the competition
Falcao's 11th and 12th goals of the tournament not only earned him the top scorer prize ahead of Schalke's Klaas Jan Huntelaar, but also took his all-time record in the competition to 29 in 29 games. |
