| National Police officers are still looking for the mother of a newborn baby girl who was found abandoned on Monday on the doorstep of a nursery school in Ejido (Almería).
Police sources confirm that they are following several lines of investigation and have a number of clues to follow, but still haven't been able to find the woman.
The baby girl was found on the doorstep of the "Travesuras" nursery in Calle Reyes Católicos in El Ejido at around 1pm on Monday by the father of another child.
She was inside a sports bag, wearing clean clothes and with a gauze over her umbilical cord, which had been tied off with a stocking.
The mother left a note next to the baby girl inside the sports bag, with the following words written in capital letters: "Please look after her and take her to the hospital for a check-up. She was born this morning 14/5 at 6am. I don't have a home or a job and her father left me as soon as he found out about the pregnancy and I don't know where he is. Please don't judge me. It's the hardest thing I've done in my life".
Staff from the emergency services took the newborn baby girl to the Poniente medical centre, where she remains under observation, but apparently in very good health.
Social services in Andalucía will take care of the girl, who will most likely go into foster care as soon as she is allowed home from hospital. |
