OFFICE workers in Spain's capital city can now go for a picnic in the countryside – just by popping upstairs in their lunch hour.
The buildings of ABC, in the heart of the finance district of Madrid, has acquired a huge water-meadow on its roof so that employees can get close to nature and relax in the sunshine without having to get on the metro or in the car.
Although the meadow is actually made of astroturf, its atmosphere is authentic and country park-style kiosks sell food and drink so that workers can enjoy a picnic.
Cocktails, cupcakes, pasta salads and sandwiches made by famous chef Pedro Larumbe are sold at rock-bottom prices, and all proceeds will be donated to the Aldina Foundation, a charity that cares for up to 1,000 children with cancer every year.
The rooftop picnic park will be open for the whole of the month of June, and it is likely that the Euro Cup football matches will be televised there.
