SPAIN'S Fernando Verdasco has pocketed his Olympic ticket after a gruelling four-set win against Belgium's Gilles Muller at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris today.
He will now form a quarter of the 'dream team' heading for London this summer to represent Spain, together with David Ferrer, Rafa Nadal and Nicolás Almagro.
It took Verdasco nearly three hours to secure his place in this year's games, but he got through to the third round of the tournament after beating his rival by 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2.
Spanish player Feliciano López was waiting in the wings and hoping, conversely, for a victory for the Belgian, since Verdasco's defeat would have meant Feliciano would represent his country in London instead.
Verdasco will face Italy's Andreas Seppi in the third round after the latter's exhausting five-set match against Kazakhstan's Mihail Kukushkin, in which he emerged the victor after three hours and 18 minutes by 6-7(5), 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-2.
