Shoplifters flee police and leave their baby behind

A COUPLE caught stealing in a book shop fled the scene leaving their pram behind with their baby in it.

When they returned to reclaim their child, they were immediately arrested.

Police say they were in the shop in Badalona (Barcelona) on Saturday and were seen slipping various items into their bags and clothing.

Seeing they had been rumbled, the man and woman turned and ran – leaving their baby in the book shop.

The shopkeeper called the Mossos d'Esquadra – Catalunya's answer to the Guardia Civil – who took the baby in.

Later in the day, the couple returned to the shop to enquire where the infant was.

The police were waiting for them and promptly put them in handcuffs.
