Police arrest father for murdering and quartering his own son

Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested the man they believe to be responsible for the murder of a young man, whose body was found in five different plastic bags near to the river in the village of Villanueva del Río y Minas (Seville).  The village has been schocked to learn that the 60-year-old detainee is the father of the 26-year old found murdered, quartered and dumped by the river.

Police received a call at 8.40 hours today from a local resident who had found a dead body about two metres from the bank of the river Huéznar, in the village of Villanueva del Río y Minas.

Police and firefighters were quickly on the scene, which was described as "terrible" by the mayor, Francisco Barrera, who also confirmed that the victim had mental health problems and was a drug addict.

It appears that the victim's father, who had suffered frequent physical and verbal abuse from his son, was "at his wits' end " and "couldn't take any more" of his offspring's antagonistic behaviour and ended up killing him, cutting his body up and putting the head, torso, and each limb into separate plastic bags.

The vicitm and the detainee lived together at No. 5 Calle Juan Ramón Jiménez, in Villanueva del Río y Minas. A neighbour had recently complained to the local authorities about the stench coming from the men's home. It appears that the corpse had remained in the patio of the house in question for a while, before the father cut it up, put it into plastic bags, loaded them onto his moped, and then threw them into the river Huéznar from a bridge.
