Urdangarín and Torres could face 8.2-million bail release
Urdangarín and Torres could face 8.2-million bail release
ANTI-CORRUPTION prosecutors have applied for bail in the sum of 8.2 million euros for the King's son-in-law, Iñaki Urdangarín, and his business partner Diego Torres.
The prosecutor handling the Nóos case, Pedro Horrach, said this sum was to cover any possible legal liabilities of the two accused parties as the trial progressed, but as a contingency plan was prepared to reduce the amount of bail applied for to between five and six million.
The case relates to the alleged 'disappearance' of public funds supplied between 2004 and 2007 by the Valencian and Balearic regional governments, which is believed to have been handed over to the Nóos Institute in Palma de Mallorca, of which Urdangarín and Torres were directors.
According to the case notes, the amount in question is around 5.8 million euros.
Defence lawyer Mario Pascual Vives says he has not been officially informed of the bail application, but considers the sum of 8.2 million to be 'exaggerated'.
Urdangarín is the son-in-law of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, having married their younger daughter, the Infanta Cristina.
