Telefónica faces action for 'unfair' locking-in contract terms
TELEFÓNICA has come under fire from the National Competition Commission (CNC) for 'abusive' terms locking mobile phone customers into contracts.
They have accused Telefónica Móviles España – previously Movístar – of applying conditions that make it 'impossible' to move to another provider, or at least, very difficult and expensive.
This is particularly the case with small and medium-sized businesses and with the self-employed, says the CNC.
“We have reasonable grounds to believe Telefónica is in breach of Article 1 of Law 15/2007 of July 3, for anti-competition practices,” says a spokesperson for the Commission.
Telefónica has 18 months to resolve the situation.
