A WEATHER warning has been issued for this weekend in a total of 29 provinces in Spain for thunder storms, heavy rain and high winds – mostly in the Andalucía down south and in the far north. Gales could exceed 80 kilometres per hour in the whole of Andalucía, especially Almería, Málaga, Jaén and Granada, and the east coast of the region is likely to suffer excessively high tides. Asturias, Castilla y León, Aragón, Madrid, La Rioja, the Basque Country, Extremadura, most of Galicia and the Castilla-La Mancha provinces of Albacete and Guadalajara will also be battered by gales of between 80 and 90 kilometres per hour at least. Up to five centimetres (two inches) of rain are expected in Galicia in the north-west, and although rainfall will be light elsewhere, isolated downpours may be experienced along with thunder and lightning. Fog with heavily-reduced visibility is forecast in the Balearic Islands, particularly in Mallorca. Otherwise, the Balearic Islands, along with most of the east coast – Catalunya, Valencia and Murcia – and the Canary Islands are expected to escape the worst of the weather, but may see minor repercussions from the turbulence hitting the rest of the mainland.
