Two windsurfers aged 77 and 70 respectively were rescued off the coast of La Manga in Mar Menor (Cartagena) on Thursday.

They were windsurfing in the Cala del Pino area of Mar Menor when they got into difficulties trying to get back to shore.

The emergency services in Cabo de Palos received a call from a member of the public reporting two windsurfers in difficulty in Cala del Pino.

A number of officers with the Guardia Civil and Civil Protection were dispatched to the area and a rescue boat was launched to bring them both in.

They were initially taken to the nearby Villas Caravaning campsite, but later one was sent by ambulance to the Santa Lucía Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
