A TRIBUTE concert to the late David Bowie at Barcelona's Razzmatazz hall sold out within hours of the box office opening.
Held last night from 21.00hrs, the show – titled in English, The Stars look different today – featured over 30 national and local artists performing some of Bowie's best-loved hits in homage to a singer and performer dubbed 'irreplaceable' and 'a genius' by numerous famous faces on the Spanish music scene.
All ticket proceeds will go to the Catalunya regional Foundation for Oncology and Immunology Research (FROI).
Bands and solo artists who joined in included Lav Records All Stars, Los Elefantes, Seward, Àlex Torío & Empar Moliner, Glaucs, Dani Vega of the band Mishima, Jaume Pla of the group Mazoni, Josep Xortó & Arnau Obiols, Suite Blackstars, Boreals, Santos, Mi Capitán – and its singer Víctor Caliente as soloist – Mariona Aupí, and Minova.
Razzmatazz invited the artists to 'join in with the infinite shows of respect, love and remembrance' of the legendary singer who passed away from cancer on January 11, three days after his 69th birthday, after an 18-month battle which he kept out of the media until the last minute.
Given how Bowie's fan base spans entire continents and how he is mourned in nearly every country in the world, Spain is no exception and more Bowie tribute concerts are expected to crop up over the course of the year throughout the mainland and islands.
