A MAYOR of a town in centre-northern Spain has been found dead within 24 hours of his family reporting him missing.

Luis Rodríguez Aller (pictured), who has been mayor of Vegacervera (León province) non-stop since the 1990s, went out hunting on Sunday afternoon and did not return.

The socialist spokesman for the provincial council is said to have headed out to the Castilfalé area when he was last seen.

His body has now been found in his parked car.

Police say at first glance he did not present any signs of violence, leading to initial conclusions that his death was from natural causes.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out to rule out foul play.
