AN ELDERLY pilot who went missing whilst out flying on Monday has been found alive – and the remains of his craft in the sea.

The 86-year-old's disappearance after he set off from the Los Martínez del Puerto aerodrome in Murcia at 17.30hrs sparked a search party, but authorities believed they were looking for a body.

This seemed to be a foregone conclusion when the wreckage of his aircraft, which he had intended to fly to Almería city, was found in the sea 50 metres off the coast of the urbanisation Almerimar in El Ejido.

But the elderly gentleman was found wandering around near the urbanisation at 09.40hrs on Tuesday in perfect health – although he admitted he was lost and a bit confused

He had been reported missing nearly 12 hours earlier, when the control tower alerted emergency services that the craft had not landed and could not be traced.
