CARNIVAL celebrations this year took to the snows as hundreds of skiers in fancy dress hit the piste in the Sierra Nevada (Granada province).
All those who registered on the website of the ski resort management company Cetursa – SierraNevada.es – and turned up in costume got a free lift pass for the night skiing session over Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning.
They met en masse in Borreguiles at 18.30hrs on Saturday, before being transported to the Pradollano ski station by sleigh pulled by resident huskies Suly and Riquitaum.
Some 400 skiers and snowboarders in multi-coloured outfits partied on the El Río piste in what was said to be the Sierra Nevada's largest carnival on the slopes in many years.
The El Río will continue to be open for night-time skiing sessions until the end of the season.
All those who upload their carnival-on-snow pictures of them skiing in costume onto the Sierra Nevada's Twitter and Facebook sites using the hashtag #CarnavalSN2016 will get a free lift pass for the spring, and the most viral photo will win a five-day lift pass to use at any time in the season.
The competition closes on Sunday, February 14.
