A LIGHT aircraft has gone missing in the Jaén area soon after the pilot sought permission to make an emergency landing.

Guardia Civil officers in the province say the craft set off from Valencia yesterday (Tuesday), heading for Granada.

It has not landed in Granada, but the pilot asked to be able to land in the El Cornicabral aerodrome in Beas de Segura (Jaén province).

However, it has not landed there either, and authorities have launched a search.

Guardia Civil officers say they do not know what type of aircraft it is, nor how many people were on board.

Control towers lost contact with the pilot soon after the emergency landing request.
