Formula 1's Fernando Alonso and TV presenter Lara Álvarez to marry in Dubai or Maldives

FORMULA 1 twice-world champion Fernando Alonso and his long-term girlfriend Lara Álvarez will marry before the end of the year, according to the glossies.

Celebrity news weekly Diez Minutos says the couple became engaged over Christmas during their two-month stay in Dubai – one of the two locations, along with the Maldives, which they are considering for the wedding.

Only very close friends and family members will be invited, and the McLaren driver is planning on chartering an airline to ship them all over to the eventual venue.

Choosing a date will be the trickiest task ahead of them, since Alonso – born in Oviedo in the northern region of Asturias – does not even see his home for the whole of the Formula 1 Grand Prix season when he is based in a different country every fortnight.

And Lara's own work commitments as a TV presenter will be keeping her busy this year – she is involved in the reality shows Gran Hermano, Spain's version of Big Brother, and Supervivientes ('survivors'), the Spanish answer to Britain's I'm a celebrity...get me out of here!, which is based in the rainforests of Hondurás this time.

Off duty, she is Fernando's near neighbour, since she is originally from Asturias' other main city, Gijón.

Although rumours have been rife for some time that the couple were engaged – largely through Lara's cryptic messages on social networks, featuring their entwined hands on a photo showing her new diamond and the captions, 'I love you' and 'yes to everything you have asked me' – the celebrity pair has only just confirmed they will be tying the knot in 2016.
