King Felipe and Queen Letizia 'renewed their marriage vows in the Caribbean'

KING Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are reported to have renewed their marriage vows in secret in an idyllic location in the Caribbean in December.

This May, the Royal couple will celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary – when the hitherto news reporter Letizia Ortiz married Crown Prince Felipe of Asturias – two months before the latter marks his second year as Monarch following his father, Juan Carlos I's abdication.

But this time around, the couple 'married' as King and Queen and with their two daughters, Leonor, 10 and Sofía, eight at the private beach ceremony.

According to the German magazine Das Golden Blatt, Their Royal Highnesses renewed their vows on a white sandy beach on the island of Curaçao, part of the Dutch Antilles.

The story was backed up by Vanitatis, which said 'following the American ritual', the King gave his Queen a diamond 'wedding' ring to mark the occasion and HRH Letizia was so overcome by emotion that she was 'unable to hold back her tears'.

Das Golden Blatt says Queen Letizia keeps her ring in a very safe place and only wears it on very private, special occasions.
