A MAN with a warped sense of humour who pretended to be a hitman to play a joke on a friend had the smile wiped off his face when he ended up in handcuffs.
The victim, a Cuban national living in the pictured town of Torrent (Valencia province) and in a relationship with a married woman of Latin American origin was terrified when he started to receive threatening videos on his mobile purportedly from the woman's husband, a Colombian who said he was a contract killer and was going to murder his wife's lover.
The real author was a friend and neighbour in the same block of flats who was playing a practical joke on him.
But the threats seemed so real that the frightened Cuban man went to the National Police in Valencia city.
Officers traced the mobile phone messages to a few doors down the hallway from the victim.
But before they got there, the victim told the prankster, a 20-year-old Spaniard, about his ordeal – and the video sender got cold feet and confessed to his friend that it had been him all along.
Even though the embarrassed young man told the police this when they arrested him, and his friend backed him up, he may still face charges for wasting authorities' time and for 'simulating a criminal offence'.
