TWO of Spain's largest high-street banks are reported to be in merger talks, potentially resulting in the joint entity being the second-biggest in the country in terms of share capital.

THIS year's winning El Niño lottery ticket – the second-most famous annual draw in Spain after the Christmas El Gordo – is number 08.354, which was sold entirely in the town of Torrent (Valencia province).
A full ticket, retailing at €200, is worth a prize of €2 million, but most lottery purchases are in décimos, or tenths of a ticket, meaning the top prize for most buyers os €200,000.
The province of Valencia has sold the winning ticket number in the El Niño 18 times, in Valencia city and Quart de Poblet, Massamagrell, Gandia and Sueca.
Second prize has gone to 95.379 (pictured) and is worth €750,000 for a full ticket or €75,000 for a décimo, although lottery wins are now subject to 20% tax.
The second-prize numbered ticket was sold throughout the country, but the third-prize ticket, numbered 85.073 and worth €250,000 for a full ticket or €25,000 for a décimo, was sold solely in the town of Benetússer (Valencia province).
Décimos which won €40 were those ending in the two numbers 62, 71, 70, 73 and 81.
Those ending in winning three-number sequences are worth €100 a décimo, and have been given as 711, 827, 423, 017, 620, 411, 382, 806, 088, 992, 944, 900, 556 and 173.
Four-digit winning numbers 6438 and 5348 are worth €350 a décimo.
