The Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, together with the Valencian Community's Professional Association of Flowers and Plants, is planning to create a mark of quality to distinguish cut flowers and ornamental plants produced in the autonomous region. The head of the department, Gema Amor, made this statement after visiting a nursery belonging to the association where she was able to see for herself the high quality of the produce and the level of professionalism that is characteristic of businesses working within this sector. She stated that "by creating this identifying mark our flowers and ornamental plants will be easily recognisable in the market and at the same time will act as a guarantee of high quality". The department is also encouraging the industry to exhibit at the most important national and international trade fairs such as Iberflora, Essen (Germany) and Angers (France). At the present time, the Valencian Community produces over 20% of the cut flowers and ornamental plants cultivated in Spain.
