| The Catalan government has launched a campaign today that under the title ‘L’Estatut és de tothom. Parla’ (‘The Estatut belongs to everyone. Talk’) aims to achieve a greater participation of Catalan people in the new autonomic legislation (Estatut) reform. According to Institutional Relations councillor Joan Saura, the Catalan government wants to explain to citizens the effect of the Estatut on their everyday lives in order for them to “give their opinion” on the reform process. This campaign will continue until the end of October.
The campaign has various participation channels, such as a web site (www.gencat.net/nouestatut), debates and workshops on the new document, as well as questionnaires handed out with the ‘InfoCatalunya’ magazine that can be sent to the regional government free of charge. Basically, Catalans will be able to express their opinions on the “rights and principles” to be included in the new Estatut, on “the type of financial model and the areas to be included” in Cataluña, on “the institutional changes” that would improve the functioning of the Generalitat and on how Cataluña and its identity should be defined in the new legislation.
