| Perching high on a spur overlooking the rolling valleys of Moraira and Benitacell sits El Tossalet, a family-run restaurant that provides a unique setting and wholesome food the perfect choice for a romantic lunch or evening with your partner, a large group of friends or a family. There’s a large terrace for outdoor lunches and evening meals under the stars and a good setting for live entertainment during the late summer.
Originally from Argentina, the family pride themselves in offering reasonably priced, home-cooked, simple, yet tasty food. Starters are varied – prawn cocktail, the cheese platter and tomato and mozzarella salad are particular favourites and are flavoursome and filling; main courses start at five euros – the family recommend meat, their speciality, and include a range of dishes from the grill menu - juicy, tender cuts of meat sizzle away on the restaurant’s open grill and are served with delicious roast vegetables; you can also choose from the large ŕ la carte menu. The dessert menu of ice creams, flans, and other specials such as tiramisu sound enticing, and the only problem you will have is choosing from the extensive menu. Chef Santiago never underestimates the importance of the customer and presents the all the dishes beautifully, especially the desserts. With good customer service, friendly English speaking staff and tasty food, you can’t go wrong. The restaurant also caters for functions.
Live music shows In the summer months, the large open terrace means you are able to enjoy the stunning scenery, while on Tuesday and Saturday nights listen to excellent live music. A fusion of modern pop and country comes courtesy of a Scottish couple who sing on Tuesday nights: you don’t have to be a country fan to enjoy the music. Their performance is impressive and it gets many couples up dancing throughout the evening and is the perfect accompaniment to a good meal. The flamenco night on Saturday is not only for flamenco aficionados, although it does help. This is a family affair, the guitar music being provided by dad with his wife and daughter dancing and clacking away on the makeshift stage. What they lack in skill and expertise they make up for in enthusiam. The singer’s clothes also make an interesting fashion statement.
Opening hours: Lunch: 12.30 - 3.30pm Evening: 7.00 – 11pm Tuesdays and Sundays closed lunchtime. Live music – Tuesday modern pop and country 9pm Saturdays: Flamenco music and dancing 9pm
