| On Tuesday the 31st August, coinciding with the formation of PALS just 4 years ago a presentation of a ‘state of the art’ Defibrillator / Pulseometer/ machine that also registers the oxygen level in the blood was presented to the 112 emergency service in Mazarron. This fabulous machine is for use in the ambulance which due to an unfortunate accident was unusable throughout the summer months. At a cost of some 1,1700 euros it represents the latest and indeed the largest single machine donated since PALS was formed. The presentation was made to the Alcalde of Mazarron, Sr. Francisco Blaya Blaya by the president of PALS, Graham Moore, in the presence of members of PALS, councillors of Mazarron and members of the emergency services in the town, at the beautiful antique Ayuntamiento salon. The Alcalde was very appreciative of the gift and of PALS continued support of both the SMS and Emergency services in the town. This year alone PALS have purchased equipment and goods to the value of 21,730 euros which are for the benefit of all. Since inception PALS record a massive donation record of 61,460 euros to date, and thank all supporters and members in their efforts to ensure the most up to date equipment in the ambulances and hospitals serving the area. With an increasing record of equipment provided to Mazarron, Puerto de Mazarron Fuente Alamo and the surrounding areas, 7,240 euros in 2001, 13,560 euros in 2002, 18,187 euros in 2003 the growth rate of PALS contributions is remarkable and negotiations are already in place for further presentations this year and next. PALS (Protection and Life Saving) are a registered charity and all money received is channelledto the purchase of medical equipment that is generally beyond the budgetary allowances of our local services and which the PALS committee consider important. The money is raised through a variety of events such as dances, excursions, car boot sales, BBQ’s Picnics and sponsored events and particularly through the support of local businesses, donations and the general goodwill of the local expat society. To continue the very worthwhile work PALS are always seeking to expand their membership, open to all nationalities and have a monthly events meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm, at the Camposol Golf Club and a meeting to discuss expenditure on the second Monday of each month, 11.15am at the same venue. PALS not only do ‘good works’ they have good time doing good things and seek to expand their calendar of events with new and exciting events but need the imput of people new to the area seeking an activity that will allow them to meet new people and generally ‘mix in’ . If you think that you may be interested please call Graham Moore- president on 96-843-78-37 or Ken Payne-vice president on 96-842-22-28. Tickets for all events, subject to availability are to be found in the Campovista bar Camposol last Saturday of each month 2/3 pm, or at the Car boot sale stall first Sunday in or from members. Currently the tickets for various outings the B.B.Q on 12th October, and our Christmas Dinner/Dance on the 12th December are on sale and going quickly. On Friday 6th August, 'Help of Denia and District' opened their new Charity Shop in Avda. del Oeste 29 in La Xara. It is just around the corner from the previous location but in much larger brighter premises, with more space to display the goods so generously donated by supporters of the Charity.
Joy Goodricke, the 'Help' committee member who has had responsibility for the organisation of the new shop said, "We are delighted with our new premises - they are much larger and in a better location for our customers, and are even closer to 'Kellys', which everyone knows.
So many companies and individuals have contributed goods and services in the fitting out of this shop which will add to our effectiveness in continuing our voluntary work in the community. |
