| ETA terrorists detonated four bombs at the feet of an electricity pylon earlier today near Irun, but failed to bring it down or disrupt supply. Basque interior ministry sources explain that four amonal bombs weighing between 500g-1kg, typical of the kind used in this summer´s terror campaign in the north of Spain, were placed at the base of each support.
They went off at around 7am near the Luberri restaurant on the outskirts of the village of Bera de Bidosa, but it took police two hours to find the scene of the incident. A spokesman from the company that owns the pylon, Red Eléctrica de España, said that no fault was registered on their monitoring equipment, but they have shut off supply while repairs are carried out to minor damage at the base of the pylon. The company spokesman also confirmed that this is not the first time ETA has attempted to disrupt the region´s electricity supply.
