Spanair have cancelled 88 flights today, on the fourth day of strike action by pilots belonging to the SEPLA trade union. All flights in and out of the Balearic and Canary Islands are affected by the strikes as well as Madrid-Valencia, Madrid-Alicante, and some international routes.

A trade union spokesman explained that they are concerned not only about breaches of contract with respect to hours worked and rest periods allowed, but also that the company is planning to contract in planes and crews from third party companies, which they believe jeopardises pilots´ job security.

More strike action, which hits around third of the company´s daily scheduled flights, is planned on the 24th, 25th, 30th November, and 1st, 2nd, 14th, 15th, 16th, 21st and 22nd December.
