Two youngsters were killed and another two were injured in a house fire in the village of Izurza (Vizcaya) on Boxing Day. The four young people, aged between 22 and 25 years old, rented the three storey house made of wood located next to the village church just six weeks ago.

The village mayor, Juan María Alberdi, explained that the fire started at around 10am, and may have been caused by one of the three gas-fired heaters in the property. The flames spread rapidly, trapping two of the youngsters inside while two others managed to escape. One of two men trapped inside was rescued by firemen, but died soon after.
