Residents fight Xàbia development

Plans to increase Xàbia’s golf course from 9 to 18 holes and build 922 new properties around it has been described as ‘greedy and unimaginative’ by local residents. They have formed a pressure group to fight the decision. The proposed development will cover 2.8 million square metres of agricultural land in the Lluca and Cansalades mountain range. Residents claim the project will transform a rural area into a new and extensive built-up region crammed with properties. They fear developers will use the expropriation powers allowed by the LRAU to acquire the necessary land and also claim that less than 6 per cent of the development comprises green belt areas.
