| Madrid´s Emergency Service Team coordinated the rescue of the two Spanish sisters, Beatriz and Julia García Puertas, who had broken down in the desert while taking part in this year´s Barcelona-Dakar rally. It was their mother who made the call at around 10am yesterday morning, giving the exact coordinates of her daughters´ position. The Mauritian embassy were contacted and the girls were rescued by helicopter at around 11.30am. Their mother said afterwards that the girls had been "left there to rot" and that nobody had been sent out by the race organisers to find them.
