The Portuguese man suspected of murdering pregnant Hayley Richards on the 11th June, was arrested by Basque regional police officers in Hernani (Guipúzcoa) yesterday morning. Ms Richards was found with her throat cut at her home in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. 23 year old Hugo Quintas, was arrested after being stopped for driving without a front number plate. He is being held in custody at Hernani regional police barracks (photo) while arrangements are made for his extradition to the UK.

Hayley´s grieving family issued a statement yesterday to express their relief at the news of the arrest, "Our family have been devastated at the loss of Hayley. We cannot express our relief that someone has been arrested in connection with her murder. We would like to thank the Wiltshire Constabulary, the Spanish and Portuguese authorities and all the other agencies that have assisted in bringing about the arrest of Hugo Quintas."
