| 36 people lost their lives in traffic accidents last weekend, which lasted until midnight last night in seven regions where St. James's Day is a public holiday. 18 others were seriously injured and seven others less seriously so in 30 fatal accidents. The same number died over the same weekend last year.
14 lost their lives and 18 were injured on Sunday, 13 died and four were injured on Saturday while 7 died yesterday and three others were injured. Only two people died on Friday and no others were injured.
There were serious problems on the A-3 (Valencia-Madrid) and A-1 (Burgos-Madrid) freeways with lengthy tailbacks reported until the early hours of this morning. Some complained that they would have no time to sleep before returning to work this morning. Circulation was also slow in popular coastal areas like La Coruņa, Cantabria and Valencia. |
