| Sabadell's David Meca has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Channel Swimming Association, as well as the Rolex Trophy, for being the best English Channel swimmer of the year for his crossing on the 29th August. His time of 7 hours, 22 minutes was just five minutes slower than the all-time record set by the USA's Chad Hundaby in 1994. The world 25km champion, who now holds the second and third fastest ever channel swim times, told reporters that he would be making a third attempt to break the record next year, "I'll be trying to break this record which continues to allude me next year. I'm sure it will be a case of third time lucky," he said.
