Icod de los Vinos is a historically significant town, which already achieved prosperity and power for the local population in the first period of Spanish settlement due to its fertile location with abundant forests and water. The wine, which has a great tradition in the town surrounded by extensive fincas, gave the town its name, but the cultivation of sugar cane and grain also characterise the history of Icod de los Vinos.
Today, the beauty of the well-kept town houses and colourful gardens is combined with the coveted flair created by the many wine taverns and bodegas. The landmark of Icod de los Vinos is the Drago Millenario, the largest and perhaps oldest of the Canary dragon trees.
