'BLUE Monday' should not be confused with actual depression, and the actual date is more psychosomatic than real as the time of year in general makes for pessimistic thoughts, according to a Spanish psychiatrist...
Street-dweller since 2003 to spend Christmas in own home
A SEVILLA man who has been living on the street for 15 years will spend Christmas in his own home this year, thanks to a joint effort between his local council and community.
Antonio, 71, has survived by begging since 2003 when his life took a turn for the worse at the age of 56 for reasons that have not been revealed.
Recently, local authorities in the Sevilla-province town where he was born, Fuentes de Andalucía, heard about his plight and, with the help of charities including Cáritas and the Red Cross and numerous residents, found a house for him.
They have stocked up the cupboards with food and will pay his rent and bills.
As they took Antonio, gaunt and underweight, off the street and up to the door, the council workers said: "Go on, in you go - it's yours!"
An overwhelmed Antonio opened the food cupboards in amazement.
"Life is for living," he told reporters at the scene.
"And now I can finally live it."
