Railway January sales: Up to 70% off tickets
By thinkSPAIN Team Thu, Jan 9, 2020
EVEN the railway board has joined in the January sales, which officially started yesterday (Wednesday) – although some shops have been holding theirs for over a week already to boost profits ahead of the Three Kings' gift-giving tradition.
The scheme Yo Voy ('I'm Going') means for this month, train ticket prices are up to 70% off.
As an example, a one-way trip on the high-speed AVE link costs just €32.65 between Madrid and Barcelona, and €22.15 between Valencia and Madrid – a journey that takes 90 minutes instead of the three-and-a-half hours it would take to drive and which includes a buffet car and Wi-Fi.
The 70% off sale can also be found on the Larga Distancia trains – a long-distance 'snail-rail' service which, although much slower and free from creature comforts, is normally a far cheaper option than the AVE.
Although, in theory, the sale ends tomorrow (Friday, January 10), if the set number of tickets put aside at 30% of their usual price remain unclaimed, travellers who want to save money will still be able to do so until they run out.
Rail board RENFE's Yo Voy money-off campaign also included Black Friday in November, where tickets valid for travel in January and February came in much cheaper.
They were priced at the 'Promo Tariff' rate, where passengers pay a lower fee but cannot change or cancel their tickets and seats are randomly allocated.
Tickets during the January sale – like with all other Yo Voy campaigns – can be bought through all the main channels: via telephone, at station ticket offices, at post offices, via the RENFE mobile phone App, or via its website, renfe.es.
