Lightning strikes inside lounge of Costa del Sol home
A HOMEOWNER got the fright of his life yesterday (Tuesday) when a bolt of lightning came into his house after entering via the television aerial.
José Luis García, 41, who lives in Vélez-Málaga, says part of the roof and the lounge wall of his penthouse flat was seriously damaged, but that nobody was hurt.
At the time, he was listening to the storm outside while on his computer in another room, and said he heard what sounded like 'a bomb going off'.
Next, José Luis smelt something burning and immediately fled the building for safety's sake.
A bolt of lightning had struck the television aerial on the roof, travelled down through it, and burnt a hole in the ceiling causing rubble to fall.
Council technicians and the fire brigade have carried out a temporary repair to the roof to protect it against the ongoing torrential rain in the area, but say the three-storey building remains structurally sound despite the impact.
It rained heavily all day yesterday in the Axarquía district of the province of Málaga, and thunder and lightning came directly overhead in the town of Vélez-Málaga.
