Gabon youth, 19, found inside suitcase at Ceuta border
02/01/2017
A WOMAN who tried to smuggle a 19-year-old sub-Saharan African into Spain inside a suitcase has been arrested.
She tried to cross the border into the Spanish-owned city-province of Ceuta on the northern Moroccan coast on foot with a large suitcase on a trolley when border guards noticed she was 'acting suspiciously'.
Her evasive attitude and apparent nervousness led officers to demand she opened her suitcase.
Inside, they found a man aged 19 from Gabon, who has been identified by his initials of F.T., and who had to be given urgent medical attention.
He was in danger of suffocation as the suitcase had no air vents, meaning he could have died if it had taken much longer to get him through customs.
The young man had no passport or other ID.
His smuggler has been identified by the initials of H.E.L., aged 22 and Moroccan.
It is thought she had been paid to get the Gabon youth through the border into Spain, and she has been charged with offences against human rights.
