COACHES carrying 150 school children became trapped for several hours on the road to the ski resorts in Teruel due to thick snow on Saturday night, traffic authorities have just revealed.
The three buses were taking the group on a school trip to the ski station in Valdelinares (pictured) – even though weather warnings had been issued for the whole of the Gúdar district in the south of the province of Teruel.
At around 19.00, snowdrifts between Mora de Rubielos and Alcalá de la Selva meant the coaches were unable to proceed.
They were stranded until gone 21.00, when snow ploughs managed to dig the roads clear enough for them to reach the resort.
Milder conditions were due for yesterday (Sunday), the first day of the children's skiing break, so they were able to enjoy their time on the slopes rather than trying to negotiate the pistes in a blizzard.
