Fishermen missing after Russian merchant ship hits them in Barcelona port
21/03/2017
TWO fishermen have disappeared after their ship crashed into a Russian merchant vessel in Barcelona port yesterday (Monday).
The fishing boat El Fairell sank immediately following the collision with the MID Volga 2, and is now said to be 170 metres under water at some three nautical miles off the port.
Coastguard officials are still looking for a Moroccan man aged 34 and a Senegalese man of 37.
It is thought the MID Volga 2 misread the rules for embarking, since it should have gone around to avoid the El Fairell when it set off en route for Alexandria, Egypt, having come from Yeysk in Russia, but did not see it.
The captain of the fishing boat and another crew member were rescued by the Russians on board the shit that collided with them, and taken to the Asepeyo Hospital in neighbouring Sant Cugat del Vallès, and both are now out of danger.
But two of their colleagues are missing, and may even be trapped on their boat at the bottom of the sea.
