Mechanic disguises old banger as Ferrari and puts it up for sale
19/01/2018
NATIONAL Police have arrested a man from Torrellano (Alicante province) for 'doctoring' the bodywork of a mainstream family saloon and selling it as a genuine Ferrari.
The accused, 43, a mechanic, had altered the shape and design of a fairly old vehicle and stuck actual Ferrari badges on it, so that to the untrained eye, it looked like a real sports car by the Italian manufacturers.
He then put it up for sale online as a Ferrari on a well-known, but undisclosed, auction site.
Police traced the accused to the garage he worked at in Torrellano, a tied hamlet of Elche and just a few kilometres from Alicante airport.
They took him into custody and charged him, but he has since been released pending trial.
