About Marbella

Marbella is a town and municipality in Southern Spain within the province of Málaga. It is generally considered the “unofficial” capital of the Costa del Sol. The municipality stretches along the Mediterranean coastline for 26 kilometres between Estepona in the west and Calahonda in the east. Marbella’s northern border meets with the municipalities of Istán, Oján and Benahavís.

What is Marbella like?

Though it is not officially the capital of the Costa del Sol, many believe it to be due to its status as one of Spain’s premier destinations. Its privileged, picture-postcard location at the foot of the coastal mountains of the Cordillera Penibética means virtually every part of the town shares stunning mountain and sea views, adding to its desirability as a location. This also helps to maintain its all-year-round microclimate, meaning you can enjoy its idyllic 23 beaches for much longer. Marbella is the municipality with the most blue flag beaches in Andalucia.

Marbella is commonly considered a playground for the rich and famous. International celebrities and even royalty have relocated here, and not just for the summer. The world-renowned Golden Mile may just be your dream location. You could consider Marbella to be Spain’s answer to St. Tropez. Although the coastline is considerably urbanised with luxury residential neighbourhoods and prestigious golf courses, it has still managed to maintain its characterful historic quarter. Although the town is typically Andalusian, it dates back to the Roman times and archaeological remains can still be seen, such as the Roman baths of Las Bovedás.

However, it is the weather, beaches, marinas and luxury facilities that make Marbella one of the best-known destinations in Spain, not to mention the shopping, where you will find every top designer under the sun. The easiest way to get to Marbella is via Málaga airport, with just a 50km drive after landing, which will take little more than 30 minutes as there is a fantastic motorway the entire journey.

Marbella property market and price trends

Marbella is attracting many different types of international house-buyers. Everyone from retirees searching for their new perfect apartment in Marbella near the sea, to families looking for the ideal holiday home, as well as those wanting a luxury five-star weekend or holiday retreat. Although its reputation is exclusive, not all properties are just for the mega-rich. Marbella offers a very wide range of options for a wide range of budgets, starting at surprisingly affordable prices. The town itself and the surrounding areas offer top-quality apartments, villas, townhouses and penthouses in stunning locations such as Nueva Andalucia, Sierra Blanca and the famous Puerto Banús to mention just a few. It is definitely worth taking a look if you are wanting to buy a property on the Costa del Sol.
