Spanair workers demonstrate against move to Barcelona
17/06/2009
Some 200 Spanair employees held a protest in front of the company's headquarters in Palma de Mallorca to demand more information about the plan to move the offices to Barcelona, a decision that would affect about 80% of the staff.
Eva María Marín, president of Spanair's works committee, explained that the possibility of a large proportion of the 600-strong workforce being moved to Barcelona is causing considerable uncertainty amongst employees.
The move could begin as soon as September, a timescale employees consider too short considering they haven't yet been told how many are going, from which departments and under what conditions.
Today's demonstration was organised to put pressure on management to provide more information and to start negotiations with those who are affected.
