Galicia 'house colour guide' seeks to discourage whacky tones
28/06/2016
GALICIA plans to issue a 'house colour guide' with charts showing which ones are not allowed 'to guard against ugliness'.
Regional president Alberto Núñez Feijóo says properties can only be painted in tones which go well with the landscape in general, and the 'colour guide' will also include materials which can and cannot be used.
“We want a guide which is open to the future, faithful to tradition and receptive to innovation,” Feijóo says of the colour chart he is putting together with the help of Galicia College of Architects.
A total of 12 different types of landscape, urban and rural, will be defined and six teams will work on two areas each to decide which colours and rendering, roof, window, path or patio and boundary wall material best complement them.
The catalogue will also include architectural features which blend in best with the different areas of the north-western region.
As yet, it is not thought that the colours and styles will be enforced, only recommended, but the regional government may make it illegal for certain incongruous shades and designs to be used, depending upon how far these are a problem in different towns and provinces.
The colour guide is expected to be in print by September or October.
