Facebook crash at 18.00 mainland Spain time 'solved within the hour', users report
FACEBOOK users in Spain became concerned when, at around 18.00 mainland time yesterday (Friday), their sites went down – but it turned out the server had crashed worldwide.
Page administrators for company sites and other groups were unable to access the social network, although individual users were still able to get onto their wall.
Spain was one of the first countries in Europe to get back up and running, with the network restored after around an hour in most of the country, although Facebook error messages continued to appear on screens in major cities on the continent including Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and London, and in several USA metropolitan zones such as New York and Washington DC.
Thousands of Facebook users in Spain reported on Twitter that whenever they tried to enter anything other than their own profiles, they saw the message, “Se ha producido un error,” ('An error has occurred').
They were among hundreds of thousands of users worldwide who commented to this effect via the hashtag #FacebookDown.
It is not known why the network crashed, but everyone is believed to be back on track and no problems were reported later yesterday evening.
