Manuela Carmena asks Richard Gere to invite the Dalai Lama to Madrid
15/02/2017
MADRID'S mayoress Manuela Carmena has asked Hollywood actor Richard Gere to invite the Dalai Lama to a conference in the city.
The leftist ex-judge met with the Pretty Woman star and his Spanish girlfriend, Alejandra Silva (pictured), in the capital's Cibeles Palace last night (Tuesday).
Gere is a huge fan of Sra Carmena and her humanitarian policies, particularly the help and support she gives to the homeless and the fact she has banned any mortgage lenders from repossessing properties in the city.
The actor is also a fervent follower of the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, and runs homeless shelters in Spain jointly with Alejandra.
Carmena asked Gere to pass on her invitation to the Dalai Lama to visit the Forum on Violence and Education for Peace, organised by Madrid city hall between April 17 and 19.
Numerous mayors from all over the world, together with political figureheads and social science experts have planned to attend.
