'Suspect' rucksack shuts Barcelona shopping centre
03/09/2017
A SHOPPING centre in Barcelona was evacuated at 15.30 this afternoon (Sunday) after a 'suspect' rucksack was found, but police confirmed two hours later that it had been a false alarm.
Access to the Diagonal Mar retail centre was shut to cars and pedestrians, and all customers requested to leave in an orderly fashion, after a backpack was found dumped inside the building.
The tram was shut between the Glòries and Campus Diagonal-Besòs stops whilst the Guardia Civil's explosives team, TEDAX, examined the complex.
Police confirmed at around 17.15 that the rucksack was harmless and no other dangerous devices had been found in the centre, which is partly indoor and comprises a circle of shops around a huge central Plaza.
Customers have since been allowed to return to carry on with their shopping.
