Diana Quer killer's mother: “My son is a demon and I'm distraught”
02/01/2018
THE MOTHER of Diana Quer's murderer has told reporters her son is 'a demon' and that she 'hopes he rots in prison'.
Speaking anonymously and accompanied by José Enrique Abuín Gey's aunt, the 'distraught' mother said: “My son is a murderer. I didn't raise a demon, but he has become one, and I can't cope any more.”
She was interviewed by Spain's fifth TV channel, Telecinco, and apologised to Diana Quer's family.
“I didn't expect this from my son and I'm really sorry for what they're going through – I feel it as though she were my own daughter,” said Abuín Gey's mother, openly sobbing.
She says her whole family is 'ashamed' and that she does not leave her house because of 'embarrassment' and 'great pain', adding that she and Abuín Gey's other close relatives are in counselling.
With the TV cameras on her, the killer's mother urged her son to 'tell the whole truth, even if he rots in jail'.
“Why have you done this when you have a wife and daughter of your own?” She wanted to know.
“My son is arrogant and a liar, but I've never seen him being aggressive or violent – and whenever he was asked about the young lady's death, he always said, 'whoever did it can never be forgiven'.
“His wife [Rosario Rodríguez] is distraught and doesn't love him any more. She says if he has to spend his whole life in jail, so be it, and she's now wondering who it was that she really lived with,” Abuín Gey's mother concluded.
Rosario Rodríguez has been cleared of any involvement in Diana's death, and it is believed she lied about her husband's whereabouts on the night of August 22, 2016 because she thought he was innocent.
When contradictions led to her admitting she had not seen him all night, the killer confessed.
Enrique Abuín, 41, who has a 10-year-old daughter, has been under police scrutiny for over a year but was not arrested as investigators wanted enough proof to convict him, since if they were unable to formally charge him after taking him into custody, he would have to be released within 72 hours by law.
Police had not expected him to commit another violent offence, but the attempted abduction of a 30-year-old Ecuadorian woman on Christmas Day in Boiro, near Rianxo (A Coruña province) enabled police to act.
Before trying to force his potential victim into the boot of his car, he is said to have tried to convince three other women to get into the vehicle with him.
The Ecuadorian woman's mother says her daughter is extremely distressed and too scared to leave the house now she realises she could easily have met the same fate as Diana had it not been for two young men hearing her screams and being brave enough to confront the kidnapper.
