Two Catalunya terror suspects arrested in France
15/05/2018
FRENCH police have caught two suspects believed to be linked to last August's terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils (Tarragona province).
They say the men were arrested in the département of Haute-Garonne, of which Toulouse is the capital, and have debunked stories released on the radio station France Info claiming six men from Chechnya were caught.
It is believed they were in fact of Moroccan descent, who would have moved to Spain at a young age or have been born there to migrant parents, and that they were hiding out in France to avoid capture.
Details of their identities have not yet been revealed.
They are not the first suspects caught in France in connection with the Catalunya attacks – in February, three individuals were arrested in the départements of Tarn and Gard, in the south.
One of them, a 32-year-old man detained in Albi, was imprisoned and the other two were released due to lack of evidence.
Days after the terror attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on August 17 last year, it was discovered that several members of the DAESH cell involved had travelled to Paris a week before, reportedly to share information and strategy with other Jihad terrorists.
