LOW-COST airline Norwegian has announced a direct route from Barcelona to Chicago (USA) which will run eight times a week from now until October 26.
Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with 164 in total planned for the summer on which 56,416 seats will be available.
The USA is the sixth-most popular destination for travellers from Barcelona's El Prat airport and, this summer, 1.81 million seats on 6,300 flights will run to cities across the North American country from Spain's second-largest metropolitan area, an increase of 10.3% in passenger capacity and 7.6% in flight traffic.
Norwegian's new route comes just a month after its announced connection from Madrid to Boston, Massachusetts, offering 52,000 seats over the summer.
Other than Iberia, it is the only carrier to cover this route, which runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Norwegian, additionally, operates direct flights to Los Angeles from Madrid on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and daily to New York JFK, and to both from Barcelona, where it also runs direct flights to Miami, Florida and San Francisco, California.
