In the early 17th century, it was part of the barony of Polop and belonged to Alfonso Fajardo, baron of Polop, from the house of the Marquis of Vélez.
La Nucía became an independent municipality in 1705, after emancipating from the barony of Polop. The parish church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, was built throughout the 18th century.
