The property has two driveway entrances, both maintained and belonging to the property. We approach the property with our first view of it sitting proudly in a hillside location, allowing privacy, whilst not being secluded.
The flat gardens surrounding the home offer a sweeping stoned driveway with plenty of parking, an enclosed garden area. The southern side includes a Glorietta with a pretty brick and stone built waterfall- includes little houses and planting- great for children to enjoy in the summer months. This is also fitted with multi coloured lights to be enjoyed in the evenings too.
The gardens wrap around the home giving several outside entertaining areas with patios and established planting. Due to the amount of space in the zone there is ample room to have an above ground pool to further embrace the climate in Southern Spain. The remaining land is mostly terraced and planted with Almonds. This would be a gardener’s paradise for growing your own fruit and vegetables.
We enter the ground floor into the welcoming kitchen diner, this room has been carefully planned to maximise family entertaining-large breakfast bar, bespoke fitted kitchen with wall and floor cupboards. We love the personal design of this room and is clearly the heart of the home. The are two sinks- a handy butler and a copper sink as a highlight.
The whole house has been lovingly reformed over the past 21 years by the current family. They have carefully considered the layout to offer flexible, spacious family living, keeping a nod to the properties age by adding stunning chunky ceiling and doorway beams throughout, restoring some of the original curvy walls, adding a second skim cavity insulation to the outside walls and installing grand external doors. The whole home gives a natural leading flow to each embracing space.
The kitchen diner leads to the first living room, currently set as a dining room, with external doors to the east gardens, window, brick built east wall with shelving. To the left-hand side, we enter the very large main lounge (approx. 10x4.5m2). There are two folding windows each with four glass panels and patio doors ensuring this area feels huge. There is a fitted log burner with raised surround with tiling. We love the ornate hatch through to the kitchen too.
Back through the middle room, we come into the third lounge, also with an external door leading to the east garden and window. There is another log burner fitted in this room too.
The family bathroom lies off this room; we adore the design of this room-giving a ‘spa’ feel. The first part houses the WC, Bidet, Stone Basin and under sink cupboard. There is a cleverly built dividing wall and behind boasts the bath and wet room shower with built in cupboard, all perfectly tiled with windows in both zones. There are two wall mounted radiators ensuring comfort during the winter months.
Heading down the hallway to three of the ground floor bedrooms, we stop for a moment to admire the original stone walls, the owners have restored this section well and kept a few of the original beams for added charm. The Master Bedroom is also spacious being around 6x5m2, with double doors leading to the south gardens.
There are two further bedrooms at the end of the home, both generous in space. The fourth ground floor bedroom is also well designed with a dividing wall with glass tiles; this room is perfect for youngsters needing a separate space as a study, for when friends stay over, or perfect for a couple working from home to provide their own areas.
We can imagine you are thinking this home has so much to offer already, however there is even more…
We exit the ground floor to the west where we head up the external staircase, at the top there is a little patio area and then into the first-floor self-contained accommodation.
This floor opens up perfectly, with a good size entrance hall. To the left-hand side there is a hatch giving us a preview of the very large kitchen/diner. This has windows to each side adding to the spacious layout, fully fitted with floor and wall cupboards with plenty of storage space and worktops to keep the most enthusiastic cook content. There is also a tiled raised floor area with backing with flues fitted for a log burner to be installed. To the right-hand side we see the fully fitted bathroom, with raised flooring to the bath and shower and is fully tiled.
Returning to the hallway there is the first of three double bedrooms with a west facing window. The two further bedrooms lay to the south of this floor- the Master Bedroom is a suite running the width of the house with plenty of space for a dressing/lounge area too, with the benefit of an ensuite.
The central living room offers plenty of space for a lounge area and also a dining/study space. There is plenty of natural light by the windows, fitted tiled surround with log burner installed and double glass glazed doors to the first-floor terrace. This gives a private relaxing area with panoramic views to the Maria National Parks. The terrace provides plenty of space for an outside entertaining/BBQ area.
Focus on Los Velez
We not only love the area of Los Velez, we also chose it to be our forever home.
We originally moved to Spain slightly nearer to the coast, thinking we would be spending a lot of time at the beach. The reality is-we didn’t. We would go to a nice coffee shop and enjoy the views occasionally.
When we saw a country home needing renovations a little bit further inland, we both instantly fell in love. Not only with the property, but the local area also sounded stunning. There is so much history here, also climate benefits-having less humidity in the summer- an important factor when looking to relocate to Southern Spain.
Los Velez is located in the area of Almeria close to the border to Murcia, under an hour’s drive from the popular coastal towns of Mojacar and Aguilas. We are also blessed to be fairly close to the picturesque Lake Negratin with the natural Spas in Zujar.

Velez Rubio
Bring your Spanish dreams to life in the beautiful area of Los Vélez- including the towns of Vélez Rubio, Vélez Blanco & Chirivel. All the surrounding towns offer quite impressive scenery Velez Blanco- having its own Castle that sits proudly in the mountains overlooking the valleys.

Have you seen the Indalo man on your travels in the region, this is a symbol of good luck and safekeeping. The original drawings can still be seen in the caves near Vélez Blanco/Vélez Rubio. The Indalo man is now recognized as the official symbol of Almeria- the is one important rule to follow- you cannot buy an Indalo man keepsake for yourself-they have to be gifted to you. The symbol itself is said to represent a human holding a rainbow overhead. Originally, the symbol was painted on the front of your property to protect them from evil. You can find many decorations now including the popular symbol.

Vélez Rubio is ranked in the top 10 places to visit in Southern Spain to enjoy the local celebrations and fiestas. We highly recommend enjoying one of the restaurants in the Plaza De La Encarnacion in Vélez Rubio or embrace the spectacular views enjoying a morning coffee at the Hotel Velad Al Abyadh in Vélez Blanco. The town has a great market on Saturdays- offering locally grown fruit & veg, a good selection of clothing too. There are also over 50 restaurants and bars for your entertainment. The area offers vast outdoor activities all year round- hiking, biking & trekking.

The beautiful Lake Negratin is not far away offering water sports and natural spas for your pure relaxation. Zujar offers natural spas too.

The small village of Fuente Grande is set within beautiful surroundings. The habitants are of various generations, including young families. The village centre piece is the pretty church. The villagers and locals come together every August to enjoy and celebrate the villages fiestas. There is even a playground near the church, and the schools of the local towns run bus transfers for the children.
